I think it should act as a new post in the sense that it should bump the thread.
Theoretically we could have people thanking posts nonstop for 3 years but with no posts it would be buried lol.

This occurred to me when I thought no one had seen my thread then I looked and saw a couple thanks.

Anyhoo, that's my suggestion.
